Lee Murison – Booked as a close up magician for a Golden Wedding Anniversary – Facebook Review
“Nick performed on Saturday 4th August at my daughters 21st birthday party. He had everyone mesmerised with his close up magic and left them talking about it for hours after. A truly talented guy who is also a pleasure to know. Would recommend him for any social occasion.”
Chris Clowes – Hired as a close up magician for a 21st birthday party – Facebook Review
“Nick was phenomenal at our wedding at The Ashes, Endon. I honestly cannot recommend him high enough. He was worth every single penny and most definitely money well spent. He was a huge talking point on the day and still continues to be now. His talent, wit and professionalism is absolutely outstanding. Nick mingled with our guests during our drinks with the intention for him to help break the ice with the families.
He most certainly did this and exceeded our expectations massively. All our guests commented and were completely flabbergasted and impressed with his magical performance and the added comedy value incorporated was hilarious. I’ve had so many comments since the wedding about how unbelievable Nick was and even now I am completely dumbfounded as to how he did some of the tricks. Just phenomenal. Thank you again Nick for playing such a special part in our day, James and Steph Barker.”

Top Tips For Booking Or Hiring Close up Magicians
If you are looking to hire a close-up magician and have searched Google, Bing etc for the perfect entertainer, it is important to keep in mind that although a magicians’ website may look fancy, the performance may not live up to your expectations!
Many magicians advertise as “award winning” but the awards they have actually won are not prestigious or fiercely contested! Also being a member of “The Magic Circle” can be misleading as there are many smaller local magic clubs and groups which are not THE Magic Circle, which is actually based in London.
The best advice is to always take a look through lots of independent reviews (not just 1 or 2) and watch unedited “live” video footage to get a good idea of what you’ll actually get on the day at the event. That way you can be sure the magicians style will suit your event and your guests. Also get in touch to have a conversation by phone or email to chat about your requirements.
Nick is on hand to answer any questions relating to hiring a close up magician – you’ll find him to be very friendly, polite, helpful and knowledgeable as well as being professional and efficient too.

Magician FAQ’s
So what exactly is close up magic?
Close-up magic has been around for many years – Nick actually started entertaining with close-up magic over 20 years ago when there were only a few really good close up magicians working full time!
Made popular by David Blaine, Dynamo and the magicians who have done so well on Britain’s Got Talent and America’s Got Talent, a close-up magician is now one of the most requested entertainers available for hire. There are more “magicians” now than ever before advertising on the internet, offering a vast variety of skill level, professionalism and experience.
How long do I book?
Close up magicians usually provide entertainment at events for around two hours to three hours and perform sleight of hand visual magic using cards, coins and other small objects to amaze everyone present.
Magic is a very flexible form of entertainment when performed up close, either mix and mingle or at dinner tables and can slot in during drinks, between courses or as part of the evening entertainment. In fact close-up magicians very often work in usual places too – on buses, boats, in the middle of a field, you name it!
Although close up magicians used to use mainly playing cards for the majority of the magic they perform, times have now moved on to to perform fantastic magic with everyday objects and borrowed items such as phones, rings, cutlery and more. Top magicians like Nick now include mind reading (PIN numbers etc) and pickpocket magic too – stealing watches wallets and phones while performing magic creates a lot of fun and laughter
What are the different types of close up magician
Just as every singer has their own style and can put a different spin on the same song, close up magicians each have their own style of performance.
Old school magicians may have a more traditional style with longer more drawn out card tricks and routines with lots of chat (patter) and scripted / cheesy jokes and gags. Paul Daniels is a fantastic example of a traditional magician.
In contrast, some magicians and mind readers especially are very serious (David Blaine style) and ask guests to believe that it’s real magic being perfromed, or that mind reading is real and is possible(!), whereas others like Nick tend to keep it more lighthearted and fun.
Nick Rushton’s performance includes outstanding illusions performed right under your nose, hitting guests with high end, highly skillful and visually amazing magic. His approach is very lighthearted, brilliant fun and nobody is ever made to feel embarrassed or uncomfortable.
When magic is coupled with quick-witted comedy one-liners and improvised natural jokes, it is guaranteed to thoroughly entertain all ages. When you book Nick, you’ll soon come to realise he is certainly one of the very best close up magicians in the UK.
Close up magician Routine includes …
♥ Sleight of hand card magic – far from anything you will have seen before!
♣ Fantastic visual magic with coins.
♦ Visual, fast paced “Dynamo” and “David Blaine” magic.
♠ Mind reading – PIN numbers, names, places and anything else “thought of” is revealed.
♥ Fork and spoon bending, Uri Gellar style.
♣ Comedy magic with borrowed £10 / £20 notes (and £50’s!)
♦ Pickpocket magic and watch stealing (don’t worry though – everything “borrowed” is given back!).
♠ Magic with borrowed phones and borrowed objects
♥ Plus much, much more.
When is the best time for a close up magician to perform?
Most clients choose to hire a close up magician during an arrival drinks, at tables between courses of a meal or as part of the evening entertainment.
At weddings it is very popular to book the time slot after the meal but before the evening disco / band gets into full swing to keep daytime guests happy and add a highlight where there would otherwise be a lull.
What is the Magic Circle?
Is a Magic Society based in London founded in 1905. Candidates must first qualify for membership by passing a performance test or producing a written thesis on magic. There is also a junior club called the Young Magicians Club.
